Meet the founders

As founders of Photonics Foundry, we are looking forward to engaging with our customers, clients, friends, photonic geeks, laser heads, entrepreneurs, start-ups and global players.

As founders of Photonics Foundry, we are looking forward to engaging with our customers, clients, friends, photonic geeks, laser heads, entrepreneurs, start-ups and global players. Together, the three founders are extremely complementary in the expertise and experience each has gained in their individual careers. In fact, there is probably not much that they collectively have not already seen in terms of photonic design, prototyping and packaging.

This is what we love to do, and together we have accumulated over 50 years of expertise in the sector.

Aljoscha is an open minded, energized and enthusiastic entrepreneur who is well networked internationally. Some of his most recent experience includes successful technical sales for precision photonic, semiconductor and MEMS packaging systems and equivalent customized solutions. Prior to this, Aljoscha had also set up a great many class-leading systems worldwide himself, provided knowledge transfer on their use regardless of their complexity, and so is additionally equipped with important hands-on experience.

Aljoscha subsequently project managed worldwide capex-projects and later led European Sales at ficonTEC Service GmbH. Following a short period as Head of Sales EMEA at The Imaging Source, and is now co-founder of the Photonics Foundry GmbH in Bremen, Germany.

Simon grew up in the City of Münster, Germany, where he studied Applied Physics  (laser application technology, Diploma) at the University of Applied Sciences in Münster and Photonics (MSc) at the FernUni Hagen. He gained his PhD by focusing on research in the field of integrated optics at the BIAS in Bremen for eight years. He started working at ficonTEC in 2016 and accumulated over time much vital experience with challenging projects in the field of applied micro-optics – pattern projectors, mobile cameras, integrated optics (coherent / DWDM transceivers / WSS), and fiber optics – all with a focus on assembly technologies and how to come up with simple yet reliable assembly principles in the different fields.

With this experience and knowledge, he now supports customers of Photonics Foundry in developing their prototypes and modules, all with a focus on engineering reliable and simple optical assembly as well as production ramp up and contract.

Dr. Erik Beckert, Strategic Technology Advisor and Co-Founder

With more than 20 years in the R&D business for photonics system integration, Erik has been and remains involved in all new technologies for photonics systems and their application. Having a mechanical engineering degree, is particular interest is to provide engineering expertise for the assembly physics of modern photonics, all along the evolutionary roadmap from bulk photonics, over micro-optics, and on to integrated photonics.

Erik is head of the department ‘Opto-mechatronical Components and Systems’ at the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering in Jena, Germany, and a co-founder of Photonics Foundry GmbH.
